female mer-Kai concept

This was something to do at my very slow work yesterday. The lyrics are by Simple Plan and have basically nothing to do with the sketch.


My style merfolk are:
all one color. Rather than the half-human look, I like a more fishy design. They also have big fins (though the boys may look more like sharks), spikes, and designs on their bodies. Kai will have stripes like these, though I may simplify the design.
telepathic, because it makes no sense to speak underwater. Therefore, Kai will not loose her voice, but not know how to use it. Humans will have to teach her how to speak, and a certain siren best friend of Kai's may be able to help.

Should I leave the name as "Kai" or feminize it? I don't mind Kaia or Kia, though I will occasionally forget.... also, Miguel is likely to make up a name for her, since she can't communicate with him (and doesn't have a talking crab sidekick). Any thoughts? Aria is my default name.

She is a warrior with the other Blitzkreg boys (hehe fish-Tala, Bryan and Spencer ). They serve under Voltare, who is not a jovial king like Triton. I won't be following the story of "The Little Mermaid", though the basic concept is the same - Miguel almost drowns in the first scene...



Beyblades and Beyblade characters belong to Takao Aoki and Vis and whoever else distributes the anime and manga... though when I'm done with them they will hardly be recognizable.
